Yesterday I woke up late because I was exhausted from getting home at 2:30 a.m. after the Kanye concert, and then Katy and I went to Dunkin to get breakfast. She had to return rain boots uptown so we took the train from Union Square and shopped around a little. I got these really cute gold tom's-esque shoes and Katy exchanged her boots for some jewelry. I got to see Dylan's Candy Store for the first time and it was crazy, so much candy! They have some really cool stuff that you can't find at grocery stores or CVS and it was very fun to see. We walked to Urban and I got a really cute top that I can't wait to wear out, and next we went to Bloomingdale's and they were having a pre-sale so Katy got two really cute Aqua dresses for a really good deal. Before going home we stopped at Sprinkles, which reminded me so much of LA, and I got the limited edition key lime -- super good!
I got ready for my interview and made my way to Bryant Park where I met Erwin, the guy who posted the Craig's List ad. Although he is very, very weird (he uses an excessive amount of ellipses in his emails), I could tell he was legit and meant well. Three other girls showed up way later and we went over everything for the job (I'll explain how my first day was later). I was kind of annoyed there were four people because only two work at a time, so that means less hours for me, but I will take any thing I can get.
Katy and I met up to see "Midnight In Paris," which is the new Woody Allen movie. It was absolutely hilarious! I didn't know what it was about at all beforehand, so I was very happy that it was good. I laughed out loud, which does not happen that often as most people I go to movies with can tell you. I have been on a good movie streak this summer and hopefully it will continue while I'm here. There is nothing worse than spending ten plus dollars on a bad movie. So, "Midnight In Paris" is about this couple (Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams) who are on a trip in Paris. Owen Wilson's character, Gil, is a screen writer attempting to write a novel who is infatuated with Paris in the 20's... in the rain. He gets lost one night and is sitting on some steps when an old car pulls up and the people inside invite him in to ride with them. They go to what seems like a 20's-themed party, where he meets Ella and Scott Fitzgerald. Later, he meets Ernest Hemingway and asks him to read the novel he is working on. He promises Gil he will bring it to Gertrude Stein to read, and so Gil leaves the restaurant to go get his work, but when he tries to return he is back in modern day Paris. I don't want to spoil the whole movie for you, but long story short Gil travels back and forth between the 20's and 2010 to get help on his novel from some of the greatest authors in history and he eventually realizes there are better alternatives to the life he is living. Go see it, I promise you will not be disappointed. The shots of Paris alone are worth it.
Today was my first day of work, it was rainy and blustery, but after a few calls it was determined I would still be working. The street fair was on Broadway, very close to my dorm, in Soho, so I just walked to the booth, where Erwin gave me a Daily News polo and hat... nerdy polo and hat, but I can't say I wasn't expecting that and the people who saw me while I was working at Metropolitan Market know I am used to dorky uniforms. Basically all I had to do was stand in front of the booth and explain the special subscription they were trying to get people to sign up for ("Daily News, a dollar a week"). There were mostly tourists out because the weather was so cold and awful, so clearly not many people were interested. My feet hurt and I was cold, so I had to keep putting images of $20 bills in my head to keep me motivated. The day didn't drag on too long, but once it was over I booked it home. I changed into my lulu's, snuggled in bed and watched a few episodes of "The Tudors." I found a relatively cheap sushi place two blocks from my dorm so I went there for dinner. I wanted to try going to dinner alone because Katy has done it before and said it was nice, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. Now I am snuggled up thinking of how I am going to spend my Sunday tomorrow. My grandpa told me I have to go to the Whitney museum while I am here and I think the weather is going to be bad again, so that is a definite contender. I know for sure I am going to the gym tomorrow morning because Katy and I walked by it on our way to the movie and it is pretty close. Sorry I keep cramming two days into one post so they become more like epics, hopefully everything is interesting enough for you to get through it all!
