KANYE/CUDI

Okay, so last night was one of my best nights in New York so far, although it was a little weird (and sad) going to a concert alone. I must have had my working face on though because a guy asked me if I was a reporter (win). Last night was my third time seeing Kanye live, but this venue was the most intimate and the platform was lofted so even us shorties could see him and he was super close. He sang a mixture of old, classic stuff like "Gold Digger" and "All Falls Down" and newer stuff like "Flashing Lights" and "Power." I couldn't get over how much bling he had on: six gold and diamond chains with large, square medallions and his diamond encrusted grill, which glittered in the lights when he rapped. A few of the other, lesser-known artists on Kanye's label performed, and I knew a few of the songs like Mr. Hudson's remake of "Forever Young," which features Jay Z, but sadly he did not make a surprise appearance. Big Sean also performed "My Last," and if you listen to the radio at all you probably have heard that one before. Kid Cudi had a longer set and performed all of his classics. I was not disappointed. Heineken sponsored the event, so there were free beverages (including Heineken), pretzels and hot dogs. The concert itself was also free, but the location was not released until the day of, so people had to either get on the guest list, get on the press list or win contests to get tickets.

I was sad because there was not a red carpet or back stage access for press, so I did not get the chance to interview any of the celebrities in attendance or the performers. I did not see any celebrities to even try to approach them during the concert, which was really weird because the venue was so small. I think I would have noticed if Diddy and his entourage rolled through, but there were some people on a high balcony in the back. I tried to figure out who they were, but I couldn't see their faces clearly enough with the light.

I came home at 2:30 a.m. and decided I would wake up early to write my report to send to Us (all reports  are due at 8 a.m. the day after an event). I would have done it last night but we don't get wifi in the dorms so I couldn't go type and read my notes in the hall and I didn't want to be loud so late in the room. I had a terrible time sleeping anyway because I kept thinking about having to write the report, and woke up at 7:30 a.m. I finished the report right at 8 and then decided to stay up and write a blog post thinking that might make me tired. I'm going to head back to bed after I'm done with this. I have an interview with the Daily News guy tonight at Bryant Park. He said I could for sure work this Saturday and Sunday (I think he was in a bind and really needed people) and after the interview I guess he will decided if I can continue for the rest of the summer. Today I am hanging out with Katy, but I don't know what we are doing yet... I have a ton of pictures from last night, so enjoy!
